Thai Steamed Wontons – Khanom Jeep (ขนมจีบ) | Easy & Flavorful Recipe

Thai steamed wontons, known as Khanom Jeep (ขนมจีบ) in Thailand, are delicious bite-sized dumplings filled with a savory pork and shrimp mixture, wrapped in delicate wonton wrappers, and steamed to perfection. They are often enjoyed for breakfast in Thailand and served with a flavorful soy dipping sauce. This recipe is simple, packed with authentic flavors, and perfect for sharing!


Ingredients:

Filling:

  • 200 g ground pork

  • 125 g shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped

  • 1 egg white (optional)

  • 10 g spring onions, chopped

  • ½ teaspoon ground pepper

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon cane sugar

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil


Wrappers:

  • 12 wonton wrappers


Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix all filling ingredients until well combined. Divide into 12 equal portions.

  2. Place a portion of the filling in the center of a wonton wrapper. Spread the filling evenly within the wrapper (see images below).

  3. Arrange the wontons on an oiled steamer basket and steam for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let them sit, covered, for another 5 minutes.

  4. Serve warm with a sweet and sour soy auce for an extra burst of flavor.
